Our Camping Trip at Lost Lake August 16,17,18 2013
I think I should just start this blog off by saying that I am blogging about our family trips so their is a record of events. My wonderful husband is having a hard time remembering our memories of our trips, events, etc. I am slowly growing tired of asking "do you remember when...." and getting form him the response "no." When I continue to try to prompt his memory I get the sarcastic reply "Oh yes, it was the most magical time ever!". Essentially, this blog is for him, however it would be nice for Abby and whoever else may come along to have a record of our events, even if they are all from my perspective ( even better because they will be correct ). :)
We had a lot of fun on our trip this year! I grew very nervous as it got closer to our camping trip because the remarks about all the possessions we were bringing on our camping trip were getting more frequent. Tyson told me at the end of the trip he has three big problems with camping : Dirt, over packing and nothing is easily accessible or not well organized. Tyson is not fond of camping, but he is slowly coming to realize camping is the cheaper form of vacation with kids, and we have received many invitations to join in on camping. He is starting to buckle under the pressure :) I like camping however I will admit Tyson gets the short end of the stick in this arrangement. I have to work and he has summers off so guess who has to do most of the work of camping? Tyson. I wish it was the other way around, but at the moment, it is what it is.
Tyson came down with a fever the day before we were suppose to leave. Grandpa and Grandma (my parents had already left on Thursday to get a spot at Lost Lake). They stopped by and picked up the majority of our stuff to put in Dad's truck so we could take our small red Aveo since the the Mitsubishi has fickle sensor in it that likes to turn on with excessive highway use. That vehicle will be history soon. Anyways, I digress. I was still at work when Tyson came in to pick up Abby from work and he said to me "I have bad news, feel my forehead". I have been looking forward to camping for several weeks. I felt like we haven't gone anywhere all summer and I was itching to go somewhere. So I decided whether Tyson felt better or not, Abby and I were going to go. When I got home to tell Tyson that he said "I still want to go!" So Tyson went to bed at seven thirty that night and I finished getting stuff ready and we got up the next morning and left!
We did pretty good remembering everything, but the biggest and most annoying thing we forgot was the dogs leashes. I remembered we had forgotten them in Hood River. We bought cheap leashes at Safeway after looking at this fancy pet store in Hood River where they wanted $25.00 for a plain leash. Rudy enjoyed the new found freedom of pulling and pulling on his leash that whole weekend. Elway walked really well with out her Haltie.
When we got there we had to camp in the day use area because they were so full. It was actually a blessing because it was pretty quiet over there at night. Saturday and Sunday was a totally different story, with all the people coming in for just the day. There were kids camping down a few sites from us and Abby wanted to watch them constantly. We would just hang out in the parking lot and she would push her popper toy, or drag the dogs leashes and just people watch. She also would look for trucks which the way she said trucks sounded like another work that starts with "F" and ends with "K". Tyson giggled every time she said it :) That afternoon we went for a walk on the trails and Abby got to "help" walk the dogs as we explored the lake and the trail that wraps around the lake.
Saturday Tyson and I took a four mile hike up to the butte and we carried Abby the whole way up and down. We took turns holding her and walking the dogs. It was quite the workout, but we were pretty proud we did it! Abby fell asleep on the way down, probably rocked to sleep my all the jostling. Later that afternoon we went in Grandpa's rubber Kayak. It was fun. We could also hear Rudy whine halfway across the lake, that part was not cool! In the evening we went for a short walk. Abby got to have her first smore that night. She was more interested in eating the marshmallow and chocolate separately.
The next morning Tyson and I took another boat ride out on the lake, Rudy whined, Abby hung out with Grandma and watched. We put the boat away and went for a walk on the trail and we stopped at one of the day use sites and let the dogs splash in the water. We found a frisbee and we threw it for the dogs. At one point Tyson found a big stick or small log and tossed it in the lake and Elway swam after it! We didn't know she would do that! That was pretty cool! Abby loved watching the dogs!
Abby really liked camping! She spent lots of time with Grandma and Grandpa, and she watched lots of trucks and cars, and boats. She really liked going down by the water, and she loved dragging the leashes around the camp site (the dogs were chained up). It was fun. We left around 12:30 and we drove home so Tyson could start pick his Fantasy Football! Hopefully we will go camping over Labor Day!
